The Dones Musical and Evangelistic group,  had its beginning, when the young couple, Antonia and Angel, were united in holy matrimony, by the reverend Lorenzo Lucena; in 1933.

Back in the late 20s, in the town of Humacao, Puerto Rico; These two youngsters; [depicted in this foto to the right, at their 50th wedding anniversary] accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
After their marriage; with the blessing and encouragement of their Pastor, Lorenzo Lucena (an Assemblies of God missionary); the recently converted youngsters, Mario Delgado [a talented composer]; 'Chane', Jacinto Peres [trompet / guitar player]; Flor Peres [guitarist]; and other young church members;  They got toghether and established a praise and worship, evangelistic group, which sprunged the first  Christian Pentecostal Evangelical Band in Puerto Rico.

This pioneering young group, not only dedicated its youth to praise and worship, but as it matured into a gifted spiritual and theologic savvy;  It contributed in spreading the gospel through the area villages.

Some of these young, dedicated, missions pioneers, also pastored the newly flourishing congregations.  Mario Delgado, pastored in Fajardo; Santos Malave [an anointed preacher], pastored in Las Piedras, and so on at Collores, Juncos, etc.

Among these pioneers; was a youngster named, Abelardo Berrios. He, with the support and encouragement of his wife Carmen, while they pastored the church at 109 St. N.Y.C.; had the priviledge of organizing, with the help of the Puerto Rican affiliate; "Pentecostal Church Of God", what is today the World Wide, Latin American Council.

We,  The Dones's  have had the blessing, of inheriting from our parents;
The evangelistic and musical talent,  which they,  by God's grace possed.
Our Dones Music Group, began its worship ministry, back in 1950.  We were members of "El Faro" church.  Pastored by Petra and Dionisio Lynd. [Assemblies of Christian Churches] The church was located at 3rd Avenue, Bronx, New York.  Our group's name then, was, "Trio, Seguidores del Rey" (The King,s Followers, Trio).  The trio was composed of: 'Parchy' Francisco Pineiro [2nd Guitar]; Silvio Quinones [3rd Guitar] and us, Auriel and Miguel Dones [lead vocalist and 1st guitar].  Also, a good friend of ours, Juan Peralta, contributed with his maracas, and occasional vocal solo.
Even though our musical prowess in those days was lacking; God was Glorified.

    By the 1960s; after a short period in Manhattan's Harlem district, where our parents established a congregation in LaSalle St.; Our family had moved to Brooklyn, N.Y.  The church in Manhattan had to be abandoned, because the City of N.Y. had codemmed the area, for urban re-newal (Housing Projects).
In Brooklyn, we were members of "Roca de Horeb" (Horeb's Mount) Church, located on Bedford Avenue / Skillman Street.  Our pastors there were, Margot and Felix Ramos [Latin American Council].  It was at this church where our group acquired a different musical style.

With the integration to our group of the Hernandes family and Miguel's introduction of a lap steel guitar, our type of music of a 3 vocal harmony trio style; changed to country, blues and gospel jazz.  The Hernandes' siblings; Obed, Johnny, and Lydia; complimented our instrumentation, with a bass, drums, and a femail soloist, and composer.  Also, one of our sisters; Suni Dones, occassionally, joined in, as a soloist, or vocal backup.  That we know of; Our band was the first Pentecostal Evangelic Hispanic Band, that integrated, drums and steel guitar, as part of its instrumentation.

    By the end of the 60s and 70s, our parents, Antonia and Angel, had established and pastored new congregations in Brooklyn, N.Y. [Latin American Council].  We, naturally were part of their ministry, 'till their retirement to Florida.

    In the 80s, as a group, we benefited from our son's maturity and artistic growth. With them on our band, we; Auriel, Miguel, and Simri (the prodigious one); labored for a lot of years on our North Eastern, Gospel Music ministry.  With Mickey playing guitar, bass or drums;  Bobby with his Synth.,  and Richie on percussion, the Devil didn't have a chance. Yes!!, it was rough lugging all that equipment;  But the blessings were ecstatic.  Among the best Hispanic Christian Bands of that era; such as: 'Galilea Sound', 'Los Pescadores', 'The King's Five; the Trios, 'Alma Cristiana' and 'Elim';  We were highly procured.

    During those wonderful years, we also had the priviledge of, back'n up some of the most prominent vocalists, on their recordings and live events.  Christian singers such as; Deborah O Velasques, Merari Castro, Carmen V Sanabria, Victor Latimer, David Ortiz, Celestino Diaz, and others...; Honored us by confiding on our capableness.

    We started recording, back in the late 50s and 60s, with the collaboration of brothers, Francisco Piρeiro, Martin Burgos and others. These recordings were in the then standard, 78 and 45 RPM acetate discs; which we cut in our home's basement, at Vernon Ave. Bklyn, N.Y.
For these, we utilized a Wilcox/Gay magnetic recorder and a good, monophonic, ReckOcut, disck cutter. Our equipment may have being a little crude, but God was glorified; and brother Burgos, selectively, distributed some of these songs in Pto. Rico, and many were blessed.   GLORY BE TO GOD.

    From the 90s, to present; We've been performing our praisely, music ministry, in the Metro Central Florida area.  Our enthusiasm and devotion has not wavered a bit, despite our advancing ages.  Our sons, have progressed, on their own individual Godly, ministries.  They have become leaders, at their respective cogregations.  The 1930s, ministry goals and objectives, of their grandparents; Antonia and Angel (Which passed away during this decade), are being kept alive for another futuristic 'Dones' generation that's in its infancy, now.

    We; Auriel, Miguel, Simri, Debbie; The Dones Group,  will continue with this ministry, till GOD so disposes.  We will not mix our God given talent, with earthly 'double message' songs,  meant to please two Lords.

Financial, malignant temptations; will not influence our musical style.  For GOD abhores, "scrapsel". The real born again Christian musician, performs in sanctity.  Not in mundane, wordly compositions.  GOD will spue from his mouth the 'SCRAPSLERS'.  Rev. 3:16   Mathew 22:14
